Nicaraguan Bishops Join Abortion Debate
The Catholic church joined a public debate set off by an abortion performed on a 9 year old rape victim, comparing the procedure to a bombing.
“Is there any difference between a bus full of passengers that receives the impact of a car bomb and a metallic instrument that impacts the maternal womb to suck out a fetus? The church submitted a document that urges Nicaraguan congress to reject proposals to liberalize abortion laws, whereby abortion is illegal with few exceptions.
I really can’t say where I stand with abortion on a whole. In my opinion it is a situation that varies with each case. In such case as the above-mentioned, I think it was the best decision made on behalf of this 9 year old CHILD to abort the fetus. I mean first off she was raped, a demeaning, terrifying incident that this child had to endure. To add to that, she is pregnant by her attacker. Why should she be forced to bear this child at her tender age? I am a mother myself and carrying a child was no easy task, imagine those strains on a 9 year old child. To carry a child when she is merely a child herself, to endure labor pains? It is inhumane, like an additional punishment to this child. I know that abortion is a sin against God but that is a very tough situation for that child and her parents and I feel that if it was my child I would have preceded in the same manner. I know when the roll is called up, I would definitely be punished for my actions but I’d rather face God’s rath than have my child suffer furthermore.
Abortion is a very sensitive topic and we could relay back and forth our views In the case of grown women, I think it should be that woman’s decision whether or not she brings the child into the world. Women who become pregnant due to mere negligence (Unprotected sex), rape, whatever the case may be. It is her body and she should have the right to do whatever she feels comfortable doing with her body. What are your views?
